TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein)
TVP (textured vegetable protein) is also commonly called textured soy protein. Basically, it’s a dehydrated soy product made by extracting the oil from soybeans. Plain, reconstituted TVP is essentially flavourless but has a “meaty” texture that makes it a great substitute vegetarian adaptations of traditional meat-based recipes. You can also buy flavoured TVP products like fake bacon-bits.
- Australian "Meat" Pie (ovo; vegan option)
- Vegetarian Khoresche Esfanaj (vegan)
- Veggie "Meat" Sauce (vegan)
TVP is a registered trademark of Archer Daniels Midland Company.
